A Booth for Two

By Kylie R., 91ÌÒÉ«

Microstory Contest Winner - Grades 9—12 (Prompt B)

The café wasn’t special, but the moment always was. Elia's coffee cooled untouched as her mind brimmed with ideas; Ben's gaze held steady, patient and warm. It was more than a booth–it was where stories bloomed and soft glances grew louder than words. She'd sign, squint, then murmur something about needing a plot twist. Ben would nod at a stranger and facetiously grin, "There’s your twist." She’d laugh. The coffee always cooled, but the words stayed warm. And somehow, in that quiet stretch between caffeine and kindness, they kept writing something neither dared to name–but both quietly hoped might last.
